okay so this is what's up peoples

today i started school again. it's my senior year of college. that bachelor's degree in philosophy is almost within my gnarled little grasp, but, being senior year at UCLA's philosophy department, it means lots of work. especially because at the moment i'm taking a course on Immanuel Kant (the final boss of Western philosophy) and also a course on 19th-century German philosophy that mainly focuses on Hegel (one of the bonus bosses that you fight after the final boss because the game designers were sociopaths). so that means i have other stuff to do.
EDIT 12/26: HAHAHAHA CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT, IMMANUEL KANT yeah that quarter is over. however, a new quarter starts in a couple weeks so below still applies:

EDIT 10/28/2013: lol i actually graduated about four months ago

however! i will still try to turn out one of those big My Little Pony comics, once a month. i have a bunch of great ideas that you're all going to love, and by love i mean hate, and by hate i mean complain because it's not a fully animated and voiced video. i just need to cobble together enough time to mold their material cause from the surrounding universe and breathe into them the essence of being or whatever. so i'll try!

so in hopes of preventing people from being all "hey you should do a comic about Trixie singing 'You're Only Second Rate'" and i have to be all "um bro i did that already," have the Master List of Uno's My Little Pony Song Comics:
Nightmare Moon - Be Prepared
Mr. Discord's Song
Trixie - You're Only Second Rate
Zecora - Don't Go to the Forest
Dr. Adorable - A Brand New Day
Ahuizotl - Snuff Out the Light
Queen Chrysalis - My Lullaby
Iron Will - I'll Make a Man Out of You
Angel Bunny - Hellfire
This is Nightmare Night
King Sombra - In the Dark of the Night
Welcome to the Diamond Dogs
Trixie - Hex Girl
Prince Blueblood - Prince Charmless
Discord - How Bad Can I Be?
The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well

of course, that is hardly the only stuff i'm doing. i have future comics planned! that's right, uno used Plan for the Future, and while it's usually not very effective, this time it actually worked. so i have some songs either ready to go or being strongly considered, including but not limited to:
-"Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid
-"It's Tough to Be a God" from The Road to El Dorado
-"Are You In or Out?" from Aladdin and the King of Thieves
-"Perfect Isn't Easy" from Oliver & Company
-"The Plagues" from The Prince of Egypt
-"Friends on the Other Side" from The Princess and the Frog
-"Cedric the Great" from Sofia the First
-some manner of Irish drinking song, just in time for St. Patrick's Day ha ha ha not really
-"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band

and of course, i am open to suggestions, as long as what you suggest could reasonably fit in with either the songs listed above or the songs i've already used for comics. so, like, if you come to me with this shrieky death-metal white power concept album and expect me to make a My Little Pony comic about that, i will tell you no and possibly inform the FBI about you.

i also have a fanfic. still can't quite believe i'm doing this, but then again, i still can't really believe mashup comics of My Little Pony and Disney songs have brought over half a million pairs of eyeballs to my dA gallery, so there ya go.

also also, i have another project going on! long ago, before cartoon ponies made off with all my testosterone, i drew shitloads of giant robots! well, in the spirit of Hollywood, i am hearkening back to those simpler times with a franchise reboot! for the past year or two i've been steadily drawing a shitload of mecha, and the other day i spent the seven hours it took to scan them all in. i'll have well over 400 images by the time this thing is all done, and i'll pump out a few of those as time permits. on the other hand, other projects--not to mention school--will take up most of my attention, so this one will be a long-term kind of project that steadily fills my gallery until either i run out of robots or dA decides to cap the number of deviations you can have in your gallery or whatever. so that will be going on! EDIT 1/19/2013: lol that's actually done now

needless to say, although i've never really taken requests before, i'll be super ultra omega extreme not taking requests until about June of next year. and all of this stuff is subject to the availability of free time on my part, as well as my will to keep on living after i've read thirty pages of Hegel's Phenomenology and yet have not understood a single word of it.

so that is what's going on. and the state of the uno is strong (but not for long).

EDIT 2/17/2013: some of y'all who watch me may be wondering why my giant song comics keep appearing in your watch list. the reason for that is that i'm updating the description with translated comics or recordings or PMVs or whatever, as i get them, and i want to make sure people see them. often i've had someone send me something they made for a comic that i posted months ago, and traffic has slowed down to like ten views a day, and if someone's going to go to the trouble of making something out of my big dumb comics i'd like to make sure it gets seen. so that's what's going on with that.
EDIT: The person in question has been banned from the convention, so in some sense this post is moot now, but I'll leave it up here anyways.

I'll admit to some hesitance in posting this journal, but as pervocracy puts it, nobody should have to just jump over the missing stair.

Full disclosure: I'm part of the SoCal Bronies group on Obviously, I live in Southern California. I've been to over a dozen meetups and even hosted a few, including one this weekend. And for the moment I still intend on going to Equestria LA. But one of the SoCal Bronies has admitted to committing statutory rape, and yet by all indications has not been barred from attendance at EQLA. This is important, because this guy is a missing stair, and we should not have to jump over him. Bronydom, and everything that comes with it, should not be a safe place for a rapist.

I am aware that he has not been charged with rape. I am aware that the victim has decided not to press charges. I am aware that there is such a thing as false rape accusations. Nonetheless, I make every effort to believe and offer sympathy and support to people who say they are victims of sexual abuse. The rate of underreporting in sexual assault cases, the culture of shame and victim-blaming that surrounds it, the statistical rarity of actually verifiably false rape accusations, and many other things all convince me that if I'm confronted with someone who says they're a rape survivor, chances are I'm looking at a rape survivor. If I offer them no sympathy and their claim is false, then no harm is done. If I offer them sympathy and their claim is true, I am acting rightly. If I offer them sympathy and their claim turns out to be false, then if nothing else, all I've done is offer sympathy to someone who lied to get it, and that's hardly anything wrong on my end. But if I offer no sympathy and their claim is true, then mine is one more cold shoulder a rape survivor has to face, and I am a worse person for it, contributing to someone else's suffering. It's a pretty obvious decision from there what the right course is.

I know this journal will inevitably get me a stream of angry comments telling me about how obviously it's all lies and I'm being misandrist by assuming that if someone says they were raped it probably means they were raped and how dare I speak against a fellow brony. To that, all I have to say is that you need to figure out for yourself why you'd rather be on the no-sympathy side of the rape-victims-sympathy wager, and why you'd rather undercut what makes us better than the other fandoms.

This story, after all, is not one of bronies offering sympathy--dare I say, "love and tolerance"--to someone faced with unthinkable adversity. There were some who did, but there are at least as many who didn't, and they are the important part. Because they are the ones who cut at the core of what bronies really are.

Bronies are considered to be a pretty unique fandom. One of the ways we're considered unique is that we're considered to be redefining views on gender. But this incident here, and the way so many of us responded to it, turns that statement into a lie. If that's how we are, then we're really not unique. From Julian Assange to Savannah Dietrich to any number of sports stars, this is always how so many people react to the news that someone for whom they have some esteem has been accused of rape. It's the same old hateful assumptions--that it was the victim's fault, that she should have said no "louder," that it was just the uncontrollable male libido for which the rapist can't really be held responsible, that she's just such a slut for having done it in the first place, that because she's (allegedly) sexually active she therefore has no right to say no this time, and on and on and on, a shameful parade of hatred. None of the people who stuck up for this guy, often with those very words, are themselves rapists, nor do they bear any responsibility for what he did. But that doesn't mean they're anything but wrong.

Because--and here's the important point, the point we tell ourselves whenever someone makes fun of us for being bronies, whenever Howard Stern gives us shit or Fox News calls us pedophiles or some troglodyte on 4chan tries to troll us--we are supposed to be different. We're supposed to be better than that. So why should we be like them now? If we let this sort of thing stand--if the perverts and rapists and abusers in our midst are allowed to get away with what they do because we don't want to call out people who might've been our friends and fellow fans--then we really aren't any different from the other fandoms, and we certainly aren't changing anything. And every time we try to defend ourselves to the haters and say that we really are different, that "love and tolerance" is our motto, we'd be lying.

I am aware that Max would hardly be the first person kicked out of a convention for sexual misconduct. I am also aware that kicking one guy out of one convention is not going to change the world, and probably won't even change the guy who got kicked out. I know it's hard to think ill of a fellow brony, when so many other non-bronies already think ill of us and we watch a show that tries to teach us to offer friendship and compassion to others. But holding our own to this standard is the most important thing of all--the thing that really would truly make us different, unique, better.

First and foremost, I'm putting this up here so that people know that there is a rapist in our midst. Rape is a very complicated thing that cannot be boiled down to cartoonish images of bad guys lurking in the bushes, but if there's someone among us who thinks that what he admitted to doing isn't rape, everyone else deserves to know that that person is out there, so they can protect themselves. We have lots of underaged girls in SoCal Bronies alone. They deserve to know that this guy is out there and what he did. Whatever the rapist does to anyone is always, absolutely, and completely the rapist's responsibility 100% and we should not accept rape as a mere unchangeable unquestionable fact of the world like earthquakes, but nonetheless, everyone deserves knowledge of the danger--knowledge of the missing stair. Plus, hopefully this news will dispel the myth to which some people cling that rape is just a matter of evildoers leaping out of the bushes at random.

And I'm putting this up here because I don't want this community to be one that embraces and sticks up for rapists, and I have a platform to spread the message and this is a message that deserves to be spread. As I said at the top, this guy is one of bronydom's missing stairs. We should not simply jump over the missing stair. We should warn each other that it's there--and work to fix it. "Fixing it" is a long, difficult, complicated process, but it is the right thing to do. It's what you do if you "love and tolerate" people. It's what you do if you're different from the rest of the crowd--the crowd that jumps over the missing stair.

So I would really appreciate it if you'd sign that petition, or email Equestria LA (, or do something to spread the word about this.

Thank you.

EDIT: Also, beware that will totally spam you to death with emails for other petitions, so the best thing to do would be to block them as soon as you get an email from them if you don't want to hear about them.
well! My Little Pony finally produced a real straight-up villain song, in addition to a bunch of other assorted eye-burstingly epic things in the season 2 finale, but that will not stop me from making more song comics, especially since i'll have to do something with myself over the pony drought. so right now, songs i've got ready to go and/or am strongly considering include:

-"Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid
-the Darkwing Duck theme (and it is kind of painfully obvious how that one would get applied)
-"It's Tough to Be a God" from The Road to El Dorado
-"Snuff Out the Light," the unused villain song from The Emperor's New Groove
-"Are You In or Out?" from Aladdin and the King of Thieves
-"Hellfire" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-"Hex Girl," from Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost, which is a pretty low-rent villain-ish song if there ever was one
-"How Bad Can I Be?" from The Lorax
-"This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas
-"Savages (Part 1)" from Pocahontas ('cuz like hell am i gonna try to make sense of Part 2)
-"Perfect Isn't Easy" from Oliver & Company
-i don't really have an idea for it but i am determined to do something with "Friends on the Other Side" from The Princess and the Frog
-"My Lullaby" from The Lion King II - Simba's Pride
-"I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan
-"Welcome to the Forty Thieves" from Aladdin and the King of Thieves
-some manner of Irish drinking song, just in time for St. Patrick's Day ha ha ha not really
-"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band, just to be different
-maybe, if i'm feeling narcissistic enough and things accordingly work out, "Land of the Dead" by Voltaire
-and related to the above, just to be an outlier, "Runaway Baby" by Bruno Mars--but this one is a reeeeeeeeeeally specific idea that may not work out anyways

also i wouldn't mind figuring out what to do with a few other songs, like "Court of Miracles" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame

the order, of course, is not set in stone. i don't know how many of these i'll be able to make before school ends in June, because i'm really busy this quarter. i do expect to be more productive over the summer months, but i also have another pony-related project in mind for the summer that will almost certainly take priority, and i have a growing stack of giant robots to color and post and stuff too.

i'm open to suggestions for songs, as long as they go something like the ones listed above and could reasonably be turned into or are related to something that could fit into the show. i don't really want to take a lugubrious metal song about bloody armor and feasting on the entrails of the fallen and shit and try to turn that into a song that could plausibly fit into My Little Pony. stuff that i'm thinking of would be kind of like Voltaire's "Land of the Dead" or something along those lines. basically, if you can't get away with it in a Disney movie like The Lion King, i'm probably not going to try it.

a villain song!

a genuine straight-up look-how-evil-i-am villain song!

my months of comics have finally paid off!

so guys i'm not sure how my life came to the point where the highlight of my weekend is the My Little Pony wedding episode
holy jesus testes is it seriously the middle of april already how did this happen no go back i'm not ready yet nooooooo--

so yeah there may or may not be a comic this month. i have an idea gestating, but i also have school, like all-the-fucking-time, so we'll see.
okay dA cats i get it very funny
oh god somebody please talk me out of making a comic of this

i know it's a terrible idea but i want to anyways aaaaaaaaaaaaah
i clearly need to find a way to do something with this

other than drop acid and watch it, i mean
i just ordered a copy of Bruce Schneier's new book and the My Little Pony DVD

i get the feeling my next comic should probably be about Derpy

okey dokey so there

unfortunately, there will probably not be a comic next month. it will be all finals all the time next month. i worked on "Don't Go to the Forest" during the two weeks or so of my midterms, and it was what i imagine hell will be like when i eventually get sent there for imbibing too much pagan philosophy or whatever. not sure i can swing that again for finals. maybe i can make something happen during spring break, which is the last week of March, if i'm still alive by then, but UCLA's philosophy department is a harsh mistress so i might just spend my spring break in a coma or something.

the month after that, well, maybe. what i can say is that after the second week of June or so, barring some other catastrophe, i'll be free all summer. but i hope to do something anyways in between now and then.
oh god okay my midterms are done so i am going to try to finish this comic before Tuesday and if i don't then EVERY PUPPY ON EARTH WILL DIE so reality had better arrange itself in such a way that i finish this comic before Tuesday
the My Little Pony fandom is a frustrating place to encounter rampant homophobia
and yet if the Giants had lost the Super Bowl, i would've drawn Luna sobbing her eyes out, surrounded by empty cartons of ice cream, wailing that the Behemoths were supposed to score a slam-dunk

in retrospect, i'm glad they didn't, because drawing Luna is a much bigger pain in the ass than drawing Rainbow Dash
so "You're Only Second Rate" is steadily approaching completion. sometime this month for sure. it will happen! if it doesn't, all creation will be unable to contain my fury, and God Himself will tremble in fear as the firmament cracks asunder before the unstoppable power of my infinite wrath.

after that, i was originally going to do "Poor Unfortunate Souls," but i had a ridiculously way better idea, so all i'll say for that is that i hope to have it done in time for Mardi Gras.
hlahrakghakl so yeah you thought i was out of song parodies? well you thought like an idiot! this isn't even my final form.

next up on the docket...

The Great and Powerful Trixie sings "You're Only Second Rate" from The Return of Jafar. Joke's on her, though, because she gets the second-rate villain song.

Then there's "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid.

Followed by the Darkwing Duck theme...

Then "Are You In or Out?" from Aladdin and the King of Thieves, which is not nearly as dirty as it sounds...

And then "It's Tough to Be a God" from The Road to El Dorado.

I'm also determined to find a way to have Pink Princess Celestia doing "Friends on the Other Side" from The Princess and the Frog, but I'm still trying to figure out how.

school resumes in a little over a week and all, but i'm going to see if i can turn out one of these a month
i swear to god i'm drawing stuff other than ponies in addition to ponies

for reals guys i promise
so like holy shit that "Be Prepared" comic i made has kind of explodiated

so i suppose i should move on to my next project. the next one will almost surely be Discord singing a rendition of "Oogie Boogie's Song" from The Nightmare Before Christmas, which i hope to have done by, um, Christmas, maybe. i dunno. quarter ends in the first week of December and school doesn't resume until the second week of January i think so y'know.

after that, there's Trixie and her version of "You're Only Second Rate" from the decidedly-second rate direct-to-video sequel to Aladdin known as The Return of Jafar. sorry Trixie.

after that, well, :iconpinkieshrugplz:

gonna try to take part in NaNoWriMo again too, even though the end of November will see me in a finals-induced panic in which passerby are sacrificed to the slavering insatiable heathen gods. so that'll be fun.
