Description

This mecha design comes from a gargantuan Gundam alternate history story I concocted a few years ago, where, among other things, the Confederacy survived the American Civil War by retreating to the Caribbean and World War II ended with a draw between the Allies and Axis, which leaves the world sort of hovering in a permanent six-way Cold War. I scrapped the whole thing when I realized it was stupid and more or less turning into an excuse to have Gundams fighting Nazis and Confederates and Communists at the same time, but the mecha designs live on.

Oooooo Caaaaanadaaaaaaaa...

As the flag implies, this is the requisite mass-produced mobile suit from the Great White North. Mostly the Canadian Forces rely on the American-built Cherokee line, so the Husky is a modification of the modular Cherokee to boast higher performance. Most notably, it features much stronger thrusters to suit its role as a sniper unit, giving it the speed to reach an ideal sniping position, do its thing, and then get the hell out of dodge before the enemy can retaliate.

I took some cues from the GM Sniper II from Gundam 0080, and the Cherokee on which this unit is based was inspired (to put it generously) by the Jegan from Char's Counterattack.

Good design, and not just saying that out of Canadian patriotism. The arm gun looks very functional to me, especially if this thing keeps a beam saber or other melee weapon handy*. Having it on the "off-hand" is especially smart, since that means that you can fire freely into a saber-locked opponent.

*Part of why I dislike pre-upgrade Heavyarms Gundam is that it constantly ran out of ammo with no backup weapon, leaving it helpless.
